1. A method for diminishing an impulse transmitted by a vagus nerve within a body, comprising cooling a portion of the vagus nerve such that the impulse is diminished or stopped, wherein thermal energy is transferred from the portion of the vagus nerve to a second region within the body by pumping a fluid heat transfer medium from the portion to the second region.
