| 4. A pair of integrated hydrostatic transaxles for independently driving right and left wheels of a vehicle, each integrated
hydrostatic transaxle comprising:
a housing;
a single axle supported by the housing;
a hydrostatic transmission disposed within the housing and drivingly coupled to the axle, the hydrostatic transmission including
a hydraulic pump, a hydraulic motor, and a center section for separably mounting within the housing;
the pump having a pump shaft with a rotatable cylinder block;
the motor having a motor shaft with a rotatable cylinder block;
the center section having a pump mounting surface for the cylinder block of the pump and a motor mounting surface for the
cylinder block of the motor, wherein the pump mounting surface and the motor mounting surface are substantially perpendicular
to each other; and
a brake mechanism directly mounted on the motor shaft;
wherein the pump is a variable displacement type, having a control shaft supported by the housing parallel to the motor shaft,
the motor shaft is disposed below the pump mounting surface and the control shaft is disposed above the pump mounting surface.
