1. A multiplexed, absorbance-based microfabricated chip electrophoresis system comprising:
a microfabricated chip having:
a sample chamber for first dimension separation of a sample,
a first planar array of channels having outlet ends for second dimension separation of the sample, the first planar array of channels approximately perpendicular the sample chamber,
a receiving chamber approximately lateral to the first planar array of channel outlet ends and an array of collection tubes affixed to the receiving chamber and in matching alignment with the planar array of channels for aggregately receiving samples from said channels,
a barrier separating the sample chamber from the first planar array of channels during first dimension separation;
a photodetector for detecting light passing through the first planar array of channels; and
a light source positioned with respect to the photodetector.
