| 1. A method of maintaining communications between a mobile, wireless terminal and a base station of a wireless local area
network (LAN), comprising the steps of:
determining when the communications between the terminal and the station over a first communications channel on the LAN have
been impeded;
placing a telephone call from the station to the terminal over a public switched telephone network (PSTN) upon the determination
that the communications over the first channel were impeded;
establishing a second communications channel on the PSTN; and
transferring further communications between the terminal and the station over the second channel on the PSTN.
