| 1. A portable container, comprising:
a storage compartment having an outer surface and an opening through which an item can inserted into and removed from the
storage compartment;
a closure that moves from an open position permitting access to the storage compartment via the opening to a closed position
wherein the closure substantially covers the opening;
a control compartment lying adjacent to and in contact with the outer surface of the storage compartment, and having an opening
spaced from the storage compartment opening and accessible when the closure is in its closed position; and
a removable temperature control source disposed within the control compartment.
