| 1. A laser system for determining range values and enabling communications between a plurality of parties, comprising:
a laser for generating a plurality of transmission pulses in response to a pseudo random coded transmission pulse sequence
modulated by a data signal, wherein said laser is activated by a first party;
an optical transmission system for directing the transmission pulses emitted by the laser on to a target object wherein said
transmission pulses are reflected and modulated by the target object to create modulated reflected signals;
an optical reception system for receiving said modulated reflected signals; and
a processor for deriving range data and communication data from said modulated reflected signals.
