| 1. Apparatus for identifying an object, the apparatus comprising:
means for sensing coded data provided on a plurality of regions of a surface associated with the object, each region encoding
a respective signature fragment, the plurality of signature fragments jointly forming a signature, the signature being an
encrypted identity of said object;
means for determining, from the coded data of each sensed region, the respective signature fragment, and a signature fragment
identifier associated with the signature fragment of the sensed region;
means for determining a determined signature by arranging the plurality of signature fragments according to their associated
signature fragment identifiers; and
means for decrypting the determined signature to obtain an identity of said object.
