| 9. A storage network, comprising:
a storage area network (SAN) configured for digital data communications;
a naming service device running a name server operable to register devices linked to the SAN and to transmit state change
notifications upon a change in state of one or more registered devices on the SAN;
a plurality of target devices linked to the SAN and registered with the name server; and
an initiator device linked to the SAN and registered with the name server for receiving the state change notifications, wherein
the initiator device comprises a change notice handler processing a received one of the state change notifications to identify
a set of the target devices affected by a state change, to initiate a cleaning of I/O resources at the initiator device of
I/O operations related to the set of affected target devices, and to issue a new session request to at least one of the affected
target devices.
