TIS Process Diagram

TIS (Trademark Information Systems) Process:

  • Person interacting with TIS's. The TIS's are represented as surrounded by a communications "membrane" through which all communications are routed to and from the different information systems.

Communications Membrane:

  • Outer membrane maintains applicant information including preferences for communications.
  • Stores incoming and outgoing information/events directly in TICRS
  • Outgoing events are translated in the format the applicant prefers (as noted on record)
  • Incoming events are accepted in multiple forms (eTEAS, paper, e-mail) and "translated" to a consistent format for use in the Office.
  • Inbound information is assigned an event number, associated with a serial number and placed in an event driven queue in the unit the serial number is assigned to.

Interacting through the Communications Membrane:

  • Pre-Exam; Exam; ITU; Pub & Issue
  • Post Reg.
  • TAC/CRM (Trademark Assistance Center/Customer Relationship Management)

Isolated Inside the Membrane:

  • Assignments, TTAB
  • TM Commissioner
