WHAT IS YOUR COMPLAINT?

Name of mass media invention promoter advertised in: Davison noted they had contacts with several prospective companies.

Invention promotion services offered to be performed: Davison told me they'd help me with my idea of a massager, "Free Hands Massager". Davison requested $685 from me so they could do a patent search, develop and issue a final Patent for me to file with the U.S. Patent office.

Explanation of complaint between customer and invention promoter: At first I was getting positive feedback on my idea, and excited about the development. Davison had a big interest in my product. I had high hopes to develop my product and invested the $685.00 as requested. Theodore contacted me and told me Helen of Troy had an interest in my product and now we had to move forward and design the prototype. This would require a retainer of $1000.00 to get started and Helen of Troy may pickup the difference before we are done, they may even pay the Patent and Attorney so if I didn't have the entire monies not to worry. I was told if I sent $500.00 now ad $500.00 by the end of March they could get started. I sent Davison $500.00 and then contacted Theodore on the balance. (I felt they were going to continue to request monies and not tell me what it was actually used for. I don't know what they spent the $685.00 on so far). I called Theodore redacted text with my concerns and I was concerned on the monies they kept requesting. Ted told me "They would work with me." He seemed sincere and that I could pay a little at a time. It was up to me how fast my idea could turn into a product sample, that it could take 12 to 18 months.

I told Ted I would have to check my resources and get back to him by the following week. He agreed only to call me that night informing me I had only until Friday the next day 3-18 to let them know if we were to continue or close the offer. "It wasn't right to keep Helen of Troy on hold".

They asked me to sign an agreement and choose a payment option, I choose the 80% me and 20% but was told it didn't have to be paid all at once or may not even totally.

Ted told me they wouldn't do a prototype of my idea until I paid 60%. $4,000.00 approximately.

Ted quoted me 12 to 18 months for a finished prototype. Helen of Troy was willing to wait that long, why wouldn't they give me a week to check my resources, retirement funds to continue? I am a single Mom working to support myself and children and live a decent life. I can't afford to give $4,700.00 away.

When he rushed me I realized his messages weren't consistent. This pressure to rush me and lack of trust intimidated me. I read my agreement over again and wrote a letter to revoke the agreement along with a courtesy call. I cancelled my $500.00 check. This is valid within the terms of the agreement.

Today I received a letter from Davison confirming I wanted to cancel due to lack of funds. I added a note that my idea is to remain confidential with them. They are not to use or redesign or sell my idea without my written permission.

I talked with an attorney who agreed with my reaction and direction to send this letter.
