The Patent and Trademark Office announces the availability of the legal analysis for the proposed examination guidelines for computer-implemented inventions. The legal analysis has three parts, namely, the analysis, an appendix providing the proposed examination guidelines, and a flowchart outlining the examination procedure established by the guidelines. Files corresponding to each portion of the analysis, or combinations thereof, are available as follows:

Interested parties are invited to comment on the proposed examination guidelines and the legal analysis. The PTO will accept public comments until November 13, 1995. Comments should be sent to the attention of Karen Buchanan of the Office of the Solicitor, and may be provided by mail, by fax or by electronic mail. Comments submitted by mail should be sent to Commissioner of Patents and Trademarks, Box 8, Patent and Trademark Office, Washington, DC 20231. Parties presenting written comments who wish to have their comments included in a publicly accessible electronic database of comments must provide their comments in machine-readable format.
