2:00 p.m. - Remsen Building Conference Center

The Public Users Meeting was held at 2:00 p.m. in the 1st floor conference room 1D04/1D14 in the Remsen Building on the USPTO campus in Alexandria, Virginia. Martha Sneed, PISD Manager, chaired the meeting. There were approximately 9 members of the public in attendance and 7 USPTO staff.

Announcements
  • The elevator in PSF is now operational
  • There are no plans to deploy wireless access in the South Tower
  • The PSF newsletter is back. It came out in March. It will be posted on the web quarterly, possibly eventually going monthly
  • IP Global Academy scheduled opening on 2nd floor in the PSF in December 2006

Questions: How many workstations will be lost to the Global IP? Approximately 237 workstations will remain.

Is the layout generally the same as presented at the earlier briefing? We have not been informed of any thus far.

Trademark Announcement
Ron Williams made an announcement about Trademark file wrappers. All paper files will be moved from the 5th floor of Madison West to USPTO warehouse space on April 3rd. During the move the files will be unavailable for approximately one week.

Public Search Facility Updates
The UPWS is fairly stable no problems so far. A new version of Pub EAST is being implemented on Monday morning.

User problem - Workstation defaults back to detail tab from BRS at logon after the user makes changes for the search.

Family Data button is specific to DERWENT database, defaults to US document selection. If the user wants a foreign document he/she must select it.

Although keyword in context is good, can keyword selections be color-coded? Doug Salser will look into the possibility of making this function available to users.

Can user accounts be associated with user ID's - set defaults to user accounts? Doug Salser will check on this possible function enhancement.

Public Records Division Updates

No updates at this time.

Question: PCT copies turnaround times are too long. What is being done to remedy this situation? Amanda Putnam will contact someone in PCT about the time delay.

The meeting was adjourned at 2:25pm.

The next meeting is scheduled for April 19, 2006 at 2:00pm in the Remsen Building conference room 1D04/1D14.
