Office of Public Records
Public User’s Meeting
December 15, 2004
2:00 p.m.
The Public User’s Meeting was held at 2:00pm in the 1st floor conference
room 1D04/D14, Randolph Building on the USPTO campus at Carlyle in Alexandria,
VA. Ted Parr, OPR Director, chaired the meeting. There were approximately
7 members of the public in attendance and 6 USPTO staff.
OPR Issues – Ted Parr
Ted announced that the move date for OPR is now February 16, 2005. The move
will take place over 3 consecutive days starting Wednesday the 16th, 17th,
and 18th.
Topics
Order entry time – Why isn’t the turnaround time faster?
Orders take 2 days on average from the date the order enters the office. If
the public uses the website to enter orders it makes the return time faster.
Split Orders – Why multiple orders placed at the same time
get returned on different days? All orders are treated as separate
entities.
TICRS Files – File wrapper orders in TICRS are shown
to be available through TRAM with a TICRS Flag. This is Trademarks way of
indicating that the entire file is there and available.
OPIS Issues – Martha Sneed
The vacancy announcement for the PSF Manager position has been posted.
The enhancement to PAIR that had prevented access to the NPL’s has
been fixed. There shouldn’t be any further problems.
IFW print speed question has been added to the PSF issues list to be looked
into. Updates to come at a later date.
The question of the discrepancy between what is in the patent files and what
is on microfilm is being addressed. Questions/inquiries should be directed
to Tom Koontz.
Holiday Hours – PSF
The PSF will be open. If the announcement comes to close two hours early
then the PSF will close at that time.
Question: Before the move a user could save their preferred
options at the login screen under their user ID. Why doesn’t EAST still
allow this particular option?
Why can’t a USPTO e-mail address be added to a user’s profile?
Martha Sneed said she would check into it.
Has a cell phone repeater actually been installed in the Madison building
to boost certain cell providers signals? And if so, which providers does the
repeater support?
A customer questioned the height of the cubicle walls in the search room.
Couldn’t the walls be made a little higher for privacy and cut down
on noise and glare from the lights? The walls are the height they are to give
a line-of-sight for security reasons.
Question: Will the boxes be moved to Carlyle? The boxes
will be re-located to the townhouses on Carlyle Street.
The Public User’s Meeting adjourned at 2:45pm.
