Public User’s Meeting
November 15, 2006
2:00 p.m. - Remsen Building Conference Center

The Public Users Meeting was held at 2:00 p.m. in the 1st floor conference room 1D04/1D14 in the Remsen Building on the USPTO campus in Alexandria, Virginia. Martha Sneed, Director of PISD, chaired the meeting. There were 4 members of the public in attendance.

UPWS Update:

There is a new warning banner for the UPWS workstations. (Copies provided at the meeting and posted afterwards in the Public Search Facility). No firm date on when it will begin appearing. Timing will very likely coincide with the roll out for a new UPWS enhancement scheduled for 2007.

Other News:

• Local printers should print from PUB WEST.
• In the upcoming 2007 UPWS enhancement, X-Search will be able to save work space same as in EAST.
• New EAST update was installed during the past weekend (Nov. 12): no complaints so far.

Public User Questions:

• Can button choice be installed for choosing a site on workstation?
• Increase in work space - When?
• Why is there a 60-line limit in X-Search for the search box? Can it be expanded/eliminated?

Answers will be forthcoming after research.

Public Search Facility Update:

Construction has stabilized - the temporary walls are up and the plastic sheeting is removed. The Grand Stairway (front) has reopened. The back stairway should no longer be used for egress between the first and second floor, but the doors will not be re-alarmed until January 2007. Elevator is working. Lighting has been improved on 1st floor; adjustment to lighting on 2nd floor will not be done. Using a checkerboard option with the lights is being considered to alleviate the problem with too bright lights over the workstations.

Public has complained about the noise level in PSF. There is no sound absorption with the walls, especially near where the bathrooms are located.

Public Records Division Update:

No new updates and no questions.
