IMPORTANT PATENT FEE INFORMATION The Congress is considering a second continuing resolution under which patent fees would remain at fiscal year 1998 rates through the term of the resolution. Because the content, term and effective date of this resolution are not yet known, we advise patent customers to submit patent fees at the current (fiscal year 1998) rates until further notice. A previous continuing resolution appropriations bill extended patent fees at fiscal year 1998 rates (the amounts charged by the Patent and Trademark Office on September 30, 1998) through October 9, 1998. See Pub. L. No. 105-240, § 117 (1998). Legislation is still pending in the Congress to set new patent fee rates for fiscal year 1999. If an appropriations or authorization bill setting new patent fee rates is enacted, it may supersede the second continuing resolution. We also advise patent customers to refer to the official PTO website (www.uspto.gov), or contact the PTO General Information Services Division at (703) 308-4357 or (800) PTO-9199 for the most current fee amounts and information. |
