TRADEMARKS BIB Subscriber Notice

2001 June Issue

We are pleased to provide you with the Trademark BIB User's Guide, a revised version of the Trademarks User's Guide that you received in 2001 January. The earlier version of this user's guide was created when there were two separate trademarks discs. This revised version reflects the merged trademarks database that contains Registered, Pending, and Dead U.S. trademarks. It also includes new graphics that illustrate the updated interface. You can discard the previous version.

Chapter 1, "Introduction and Installation," introduces the contents of the Trademarks BIB optical disc and provides installation instructions.

Chapter 2, "User Guide," covers the use of the Cassis2 user interface. Information on the three Search screens and Results screen is provided. Features such as Sorting, Printing, Saving, and Exporting are discussed in this chapter. The use of special tools including the Index and Session History is also described.

Chapter 3, "Contents of the File," includes a section on each field. A note detailing which type(s) of trademark the field pertains to, Registered, Pending, or Dead, appears at the end of each section.

Chapter 4, "Search Guide," provides search examples specific to the Trademarks BIB database. In addition, subjects such as truncation, Boolean and proximity searching, and searching for dates are covered.

There are two appendices to the User's Guide. Appendix A provides the International and U.S. Trademark Classification Schedules. Appendix B lists the characters and symbols that are searchable using special codes in the Mark Combined Search field.
