August 16, 2016 (revised September 27, 2016) Subject: PTMT Custom patent data extract dual-layer DVD-ROM, 2015 update ************************************************************** NOTE: ---- The data contained on the PREVIOUS YEAR'S 2014 PTMT DVD are being made available for download from the USPTO Web Site at no charge. See http://www.uspto.gov/web/offices/ac/ido/oeip/taf/reports.htm#cust_xtract for information about the availability and location of these files from the 2014 previous year DVD. ************************************************************* The files in the subdirectories within this directory, http://www.uspto.gov/web/offices/ac/ido/oeip/taf/data/misc/data_cd.doc/custom_extract_dvd/ contain documentation for selected custom patent data extracts from the USPTO TAF database that have been placed on a single, custom data extract DVD-ROM. The DVD-ROM is a dual-layer DVD. The DVD does not contain bibliographic data for published patent applications. The TAF database consists primarily of selected bibliographic data extracted from the front page of issued U.S. patents. Inconsistencies in the patent data have been corrected in the TAF database, when identified and when possible. The contents within each subdirectory correspond to one of the custom data extracts that has been included on the custom patent data extract DVD-ROM. A total of fourteen custom data extracts are included on the DVD-ROM. The DVD-ROM is available for purchase from the Electronic Information Products Division, Patent Technology Monitoring Team. The price of the DVD-ROM is now $50. In general, these custom data extracts are in a form that facilitates the loading of the data into a database for data manipulation and analysis. Use of database software such as SAS, Oracle, STATA, SPSS, etc. is suggested for use with the contents of the DVD-ROM. Although most files are very large and, therefore, are not suitable for use in their entirety in spreadsheet software such as Microsoft Excel, small subsets of some files can be handled successfully in such spreadsheet software. *** PLEASE NOTE *** DATA THROUGH CALENDAR YEAR 2015, AS CONTAINED IN THE FOLLOWING CUSTOM DATA EXTRACTS, HAVE BEEN PLACED ON A SINGLE MULTI-EXTRACT DVD-ROM WHICH MAY BE PURCHASED AT A PRICE OF $50 from the Electronic Information Products Division, Patent Technology Monitoring Team. *** PLEASE NOTE *** EXCEPT AS NOTED, THE CUSTOM DATA EXTRACTS INCLUDE BIBLIOGRAPHIC INFORMATION FOR: - UTILITY PATENTS (I.E., "PATENTS FOR INVENTIONS") ISSUED BY THE U.S. PATENT AND TRADEMARK OFFICE (USPTO) FROM 1/1/1975 TO 12/31/2015 (the Basic Bibliographic Data file also includes data for a limited number of data fields for utility patents granted during the 1963 to 1974 period), - DESIGN, PLANT, AND REISSUE PATENTS, DEFENSIVE PUBLICATIONS, AND STATUTORY INVENTION REGISTRATIONS ISSUED BY THE USPTO FROM 1/1/1977 TO 12/31/2015 CONTENTS OF THE CUSTOM EXTRACT DVD-ROM INCLUDE THE FOLLOWING DATA: - Basic Basic bibliographic patent data associated bibliographic with U.S. patent grants including patent data: number, issue date, application month and year, country of origin based on the residence of the first-named inventor, first-named assigned owner at grant as harmonized for spelling variations, ownership assignment category, assigned primary (also known as the "original) class and subclass within the U.S. Patent Classification System as of 12/31/2015 (see the basic_bib_15 subdirectory contents for the documentation that accompanies the data files) - Inventor: Inventor information associated with U.S. patent grants (see the inventor_15 subdirectory contents for the documentation that accompanies the data files) - Related Related U.S. patent application data associated Applications: with U.S. patent grants; these related applications are U.S. applications; foreign priority application data are not included in this data extract but are in a separate extract (see the related_appls_15 subdirectory for the documentation that accompanies the data files) - Foreign Priority: Claimed foreign priority information associated with U.S. patent grants (see the foreign_priority_15 subdirectory contents for the documentation that accompanies the data files) - PCT: Patent Cooperation Treaty data associated with U.S. patent grants (see the pct_15 subdirectory contents for the documentation that accompanies the data files) - US Citations: Citations of U.S. patent documents associated with U.S. patent grants (see the us_citations_15 subdirectory contents for the documentation that accompanies the data files) - Foreign Citations: Citations of foreign patents associated with U.S. patent grants (see the foreign_citations_15 subdirectory contents for the documentation that accompanies the data files) - Other Citations: Citations of non-patent literature associated with U.S. patent grants (see the other_citations_15 subdirectory contents for the documentation that accompanies the data files) - Claims: Number of claims, drawing figures, and drawing pages associated with U.S. patent grants (see the claims_15 subdirectory contents for the documentation that accompanies the data files) - Pat_Titles Patent titles associated with U.S. patent grants (see the pat_titles_15 subdirectory for the documentation that accompanies the data files) - Applicants Patent applicant data associated with U.S. patent grants (see the applicant_15 subdirectory for the documentation that accompanies the data files) (* NEW) - Assignee Fullfile Complete patent assignee data for all listed assignees associated with U.S. patent grants including the unharmonized assignee names and their associated locations (see the assignee_fullfile_15 subdirectory for the documentation that accompanies the data files) (* NEW) - Assignee Detail data associated with the PTMT efforts Harmonization: to harmonize the first-named assigned owner (assignee) listed on the issued patent documents (see the assignee_harmon_15 subdirectory for the documentation that accompanies the data files) - Inventor County Supplemental U.S.-resident innventor information Data (2000-15): for 2000 to 2015 U.S. patent grants that includes one or more counties identified through a matching process (see the inventor_county_00_15 subdirectory contents for the documentation that accompanies the data files) Sample records from the different data extracts are included within most of the documentation subdirectories.
