Note: The following table is an update to the private use characters that were presented in the Red Book ICE Status Report dated July 15, 2005.

Effective with Red Book Patent Grant issue of August 2, 2005, and Red Book Patent Application issue of August 4, 2005, the following 14 private use character entities will either be replaced with a <img> tag or img processing instruction. The July 15, 2005, status incorrectly referenced the custom-character tag instead of the img tag.

MathML contains invalid line end characters in Red Book (Patent Grants and Patent Applications)

July 22, 2005 - Please reference the Red Book ICE Status Report dated July 1, 2005.

Mathml "line end" characters and Mathml private use characters are "problematic" when converted to hexadecimal Unicode, especially when the conversion is based on the Mathml entity files. Effective with Red Book Patent Grant issue of August 16, 2005 and Red Book Application issue of August 18, 2005, in-line Mathml markup private use entities will retain their original entity form.
