Red Book ICE (Grants and Applications)
Weekly Status Report - July 1, 2005Item Number Date Reported Description and Status 1 December 14,
2004Private use area Unicode characters cannot be rendered in Red Book (Patent Grants and Patent Applications) July 1, 2005 - Please reference the Red Book ICE Status Report dated April 29, 2005.
ICE private use characters are coming from the wipo.ent declarations and the mathml content. For the US specific private use characters defined within wipo.ent, the USPTO's Red Book will convert the entities to custom characters using the same imagery as in Yellow Book. Mathml content private use characters (and a few other problematic characters) will retain their original ISO entity format and not be converted to hexadecimal Unicode. This supports the importing of the mathml content model into products like Mathematica and retains the original notebook composition.
The implementation impact is being assessed with an anticipated implementation date of mid-July.
