Patents BIB Subscriber Notice
August 2004 Issue
As we explained in the Patents BIB Subscriber Notice dated August 2, 2004,
the bimonthly Patents BIB optical disc product has grown too large to fit
on one DVD and we were looking at both short-term and long-term options to
resolve this problem. Based on feedback received from our subscribers, the
Office of Electronic Information Products has decided to proceed with the
options outlined in the August notice.
The short-term resolution is to remove the oldest patent abstracts for the
remaining issues in 2004. The August 2004 issue is the first issue to contain
fewer abstracts; abstracts are now included for January 1991 to date. Abstracts
from September 1988 through December 1990 have been removed.
The long-term resolution will be to separate published patent applications
and patent grants creating a two-disc set. Beginning with the December 2004
issue you will receive in early 2005, Patents BIB will consist of two discs:
one containing the patent grants and the other containing published patent
applications. All available data will be included on these two discs, including
the restoration of patent abstracts from September 1988 through December 1990.
Although the Patents BIB product will now include two discs, the price of
the product will be consistent with all one-disc bimonthly product prices.
Thank you for your feedback, it was very helpful to us in making this decision.
Please do not hesitate to contact us if you have further questions or concerns.
