Patents BIB Subscriber Notice
The data included on the bimonthly Patents BIB optical disc product has grown
too large to fit on one DVD. The Office of Electronic Information Products
(OEIP) is now looking at long-term and short-term options to resolve this
problem and would like your feedback.
OEIP proposes the following course to create more space on Patents BIB:
As a long-term resolution we are looking into the possibility of
separating published patent applications and patent grants creating a two-disc
set. Beginning with the first issue in 2005, Patents BIB would consist
of two discs; one containing the patent grants and the other containing published
patent applications. All available data would be included on these two discs.
This option would entail looking at two discs for the information now provided
on one and there would be an increase in the cost of the product.
In the short-term, we will remove the oldest abstracts for the remaining
issues in 2004. Patents BIB currently contains abstracts from September
1, 1988, to date. In order to make Patents BIB fit for the remainder of calendar
year 2004, we will remove the abstracts from 1988 through 1991. This will
occur with the August 2004 issue. The Patents BIB opening screen will alert
the user to the date of the first abstract included on the current disc.
Please contact us via email at cassis@uspto.gov
to give us your feedback by August 30, 2004.
Thank you for your time and consideration. We will contact you once a decision
has been reached.
