We are pleased to provide you with a copy of the premiere issue of the Electronic Official Gazette
of the United States Patent and Trademark Office - Patents (eOG:P) for 2002
July 2. The eOG:P will deliver the information contained in the paper version
of the Official Gazette but in electronic format on CD-ROM and on the USPTO
Website. Similar to the paper OG, the eOG:P will be published every Tuesday
and will include bibliographic information, a representative claim, and a drawing
(if applicable) of each patent issued that week. Patents can be browsed by type
of patent (utility, plant, etc.), classification (class or class/subclass),
patentee name, and geographical location. The Official Gazette Notices, covering
both patents and trademarks, are also included.
The CD-ROM product is available for sale on an annual subscription basis of $300 per year or as individual copies
for $15 each. An order form for this product is attached. The Web version of
the eOG:P is available free of charge.
The eOG:P CD-ROM is programmed to start up as soon as you insert it into your optical disc drive; you do not
need to start it. Once started, you will see the title page with date and issue
information. Click on Continue to begin using the product. If autorun has been
disabled on your PC, go to Windows Explorer and select your optical disc drive.
Double-click on the index.html file to start the operation.
The Web version of the eOG:P will be posted on Tuesday mornings to the USPTO Website at www.uspto.gov/web/patents/patog/.
It is also accessible by selecting the Patents link from the USPTO home page
(www.uspto.gov) and then clicking on the Patents OG link located in the left
column under Services.
There are several advantages to the eOG:P because of its electronic formats:
- There is a comprehensive
index of patentees in addition to the traditional individual indexes by
patent type
- There are direct links
to the patent from patentee names in the Index of Patentees
- Plant patent images
have been added to the bibliographic record
- Changed text in Reissues
is displayed in red
- Patentees by country
have been added to the Geographical Index
- There are direct links
to patents from state or country in the Geographical Index
- A user can link directly
to the types of utility patent: general and mechanical, chemical, and electrical
- There is a direct
link to the patent from a class or class and subclass
- The patent record
can be easily saved or printed
The user is now able to jump
to the full text of the patent by clicking on the Full Text button in the upper
left corner of the patent record. Click on the button to jump to the Patent Full
Text Database on the USPTO Website. Note: If using the CD-ROM product, you must
first be logged on to the Internet
We anticipate that you
will find the eOG:P to be a useful and timesaving product. Please contact us
for additional information or to give us your comments about the eOG:P. We are
especially interested in hearing from you about how to improve the product.
Is there anything in the paper OG that we failed to include? Is there some other
functionality that would significantly improve the value of the product to you?
Please let us know.
