Don't Miss Important E-mails from the USPTO

Add the USPTO to your "Safe Senders" list

If you applied for a trademark and authorized e-mail communications from the USPTO, then you will want to make sure that all USPTO e-mails reach you.  Unfortunately, servers or SPAM filters often block important messages or send them to your junk mail folder because they don't recognize the sender.

To help ensure that you receive mail from the USPTO, please log in to your e-mail now and follow the steps below to add important USPTO e-mail addresses to your address book, contacts, and/ or “Safe Senders” list.

Remember that you may receive e-mail messages from several Trademark addresses.  Please add all of the addresses listed below.  You may also receive e-mail from an individual person’s USPTO e-mail address, e.g., johnsmith@uspto.gov.

Microsoft Outlook

Please add our domain name (uspto.gov) or "from" address (for example: teas@uspto.gov) to your Safe Senders list. Remember that you may receive messages from several Trademark Office addresses.  To add us to your Safe Senders list: 

Microsoft Outlook 2010

  1. On the “Home” tab, click “Junk,” and then click "Junk E-mail Options".
  2. On the “SafeSenders” tab, click “Add”.
  3. In the “Enter an e-mail address or Internet domain name to be added to the list” field, enter "uspto.gov".
  4. Click “OK”.

Microsoft Outlook 2003-2007

  1. On the “Tools” menu, click “Options”.
  2. On the “Preferences” tab, click “Junk E-mail”.
  3. On the “Safe Senders” tab, click “Add”.
  4. In the “Add Address” field, enter "uspto.gov".
  5. Click “OK”.

Missing an e-mail? Check if our e-mail is in your “Junk E-mail Folder.”  If it is, right click on the e-mail, select "Junk E-mail" and click "Add Sender's Domain to Safe Senders List."  

Gmail

Please add our "from" address (for example: teas@uspto.gov) to your Gmail contacts list. Remember that you may receive messages from several Trademark Office e-mail addresses. To add us to your contact list:

  1. Click "Contacts" along the left side of any Gmail page.
  2. Click "Add Contact".
  3. Copy and paste our "From" address, "teas@uspto.gov”, into the primary e-mail     address dialog box.
  4. Click "Save".

Missing an e-mail? Check if our e-mail is in the "Spam" folder:

  1. Click “Spam” along the left side of any Gmail page.
  2. If you see any Trademark Office e-mail listed among the messages in this folder, check the box next to our e-mail.
  3. Click the “Not Spam” button along the top.

Windows Live Hotmail

Please add our "from" address (for example: teas@uspto.gov) to your Safe Senders list. Remember that you may receive messages from several Trademark Office e-mail addresses. To add us to your Safe Senders list: 

  1. Open your mailbox and click "Options" (upper right hand corner).
  2. Click the "Junk E-mail Protection" link (top of page).
  3. Select the "Safe List" link (second from bottom).
  4. Copy and paste "”teas@uspto.gov" into the dialog box titled "Type an address or domain".
  5. Click the "Add" button next to the dialog box.

Missing an e-mail? Check if our e-mail is in your "Junk E-mail Folder."  If it is, open the e-mail and click the "Not Junk" button. Next, check to see if our e-mail address is in your "Blocked Senders" list. If you see a message from uspto.gov on this list, select it and click the "Remove" button. Finally, if you have not done so, add our "from" address (for example: teas@uspto.gov) to your Safe Senders list as described above.

AOL

Please add our "from" address (for example: teas@uspto.gov) to your Safe Senders list. Remember that you may receive messages from several Trademark Office e-mail addresses. To add us to your Safe Senders list: 

  1. Click “Mail Menu” and select "Address Book."
  2. Wait for the "Address Book" window to pop up and then click the "Add” button.
  3. Wait for the "Address Card for New Contact" window to load.
  4. Paste "teas@uspto.gov" into the "Other E-mail" field.
  5. Make our "from" address the "Primary E-mail" address by checking the associated check box.
  6. Click the "Save" button.

Missing an e-mail? Check if our e-mail is in your "AOL Spam Folder."  If it is, please open the e-mail and then click the "This Is Not Spam" button. Next, please add "teas@uspto.gov" to your address book as described above.

Yahoo!

You must set up a filter to redirect our e-mails and/or newsletters into your inbox:

  1. Open your mailbox and click on "Mail Options" (upper right hand corner).
  2. Select Filters.
  3. Click the "Add" link on the filters page.
  4. Update the "From Header” rule with the following two pieces of information: "contains" and "@uspto.gov".
  5. Click the "Choose Folder" pull-down menu and select “Inbox.”  Pick the "Add Filter" button.

Missing an e-mail? Check if our e-mail is in your Yahoo! “Bulk Folder”. If it is, please open the e-mail and click the "Not Spam" button. Next, check to see if the address the e-mail was sent from is in your "Blocked Addresses" list. If you see "teas@uspto.gov" on this list, select it and click the "Remove Block" button. Finally, please set up a filter as outlined above.

In addition to the steps outlined below, please ensure that the e-mail address you provided to    the USPTO does not have any of the issues raised in the numbered statements below.

  1. The destination e-mail address is valid. Please ensure that all entered e-mail addresses do not contain any typographical errors.
  2. The destination e-mail address is not relaying the e-mail to a different address.
  3. The USPTO must be able to perform a "reverse DNS look-up" of the destination e-mail address.

(Internet Service Providers may add the IP addresses listed below to their allowed sender list.)

Reminder

REMINDER: If the applicant has authorized e-mail communication, then the applicant acknowledges that it is solely responsible for receipt of USPTO documents sent via e-mail. The applicant should periodically check the status of its application through the Trademark Status and Document Retrieval (TSDR) database, to see if either the assigned examining attorney has e-mailed an Office Action or a Notice of Allowance has issued such that a filing from the applicant is now due.  All documents submitted by the applicant or issued by the USPTO can be viewed through TSDR.
