Help on the Combined Marks Search Page
This page contains information on
the use of the PTO Web Trademark Database Mark Search Page.
The Mark Search page allows you to search for terms occurring in any of
the mark fields (Word Mark, Pseudo Mark, and Translation). While you can
search for terms in other ways, this page is designed to simplify one of
the most common types of searching. To use the page:
- Select which database to search from the Select Database
list.
- Type the term or terms (separated by spaces) into the Words in
the Marks box.
- Choose how the terms you entered are related to one another using the
Results must contain: drop-down menu.
- the All of these words option will require documents to
contain all of the words you enter. If a mark has all but one of the
words, it will not be returned.
- the Any of these words option will require the mark to
contain at least one of the words you enter.
- the This exact phrase option will require that the terms
you entered exist in the document exactly as you have entered them,
and in the order you have entered them.
- Hit the Search button.
The Mark Fields (Word Mark, Pseudo Mark and Translation) will be
searched for all the terms you entered, related in the manner you specify,
and a list of the documents matching the query will be retrieved, sorted
with the most recent document first.
Some things to note:
- The search is not case-sensitive. Searching for 'Mountain' or
'mountain' will return the same results.
- Documents containing terms you are searching for that are in non-mark
fields (Owner Name, for example) will not be included in your result
set. To search other fields, use the
Boolean or
Manual
search page.
- The 'Refine Search' box on the search results page will use the same
query format as the
Manual
Search page. See the Manual Search Help
page for details on its use.
