Patent Examination Data System (PEDS) Retirement
The USPTO is planning to retire the Patent Examination Data System (PEDS) on March 14, 2025. All available patent data and Application Programming Interfaces (APIs) will be part of the new Open Data Portal (ODP) launching on February 12, 2025.
Many customers use PEDS to search, filter, and download large patent data sets. ODP will contain all of this data and future records in the Patent File Wrapper feature. ODP is a new platform that combines several data dissemination services into one so you can easily discover and extract data you need.
Here are five helpful resources to help guide you:
- ODP Patent File Wrapper
- ODP API Getting Started page
- ODP API Syntax Documentation
- PEDS API Transition Guidance
- PEDS to ODP API Mapping
We encourage you to provide feedback to us as we make further improvements this year. Over time, more datasets and features will be available as new services are added to the product, including Trademark Decisions and Proceedings data.
