Public User's Meeting

The Public User's Meeting was held at 2:00 p.m. in the 1st floor conference room 1D70/1D80 of the Jefferson Building at 500 Dulany Street on the USPTO campus in Alexandria, Virginia. Martha Sneed, Manager of PISD, chaired the meeting. There was one member of the public in attendance.

Announcements

Lighting project in Public Search Facility (PSF) is now complete. Adjustments were made to lighting on 1st and 2nd floors.

  • Anticipated date for the closure of the Trademark Search Facility in South Tower is September 5, 2008. A notice will be posted in March.

Public Search Facility Update

The OPM delayed opening for inclement weather is established along safety guidelines for the DC-MD-VA metro area. These guidelines are used in order to give time for the streets, bridges and overpasses to be treated for ice/snow to make travel safer.

UPWS

  • Derwent has changed file formats. IPC index gets IPCs applied to the documents. There is a new group of IPC indexes. They must be searched in order to insure you are getting the correct one.
  • Problems that some users were experiencing with PubPAIR have been resolved.

Public Records Division Update

PRD will be moving to new space in Shirlington. The FIU will also move to the new location. The move is tentatively schedule to begin January 2009. Shuttle service will be maintained between Shirlington and Carlyle.

Question: Can you get FIU file access in a reading room in Alexandria? This question can be directed to FIU management. They have ownership over file access.
