About eMod

eMod (eCommerce Modernization) is an exciting project to improve the electronic patent application process by modernizing its filing and viewing systems.

About the Tool

Patent Center is the new tool in development, which features a unified interface, with all of the capabilities from today's tools in a single place, and so much more. Patent Center will replace the Electronic Filing System - Web (EFS-Web)the current web-based patent application and document submission tool; and the Patent Application Information Retrieval (PAIR) system, the current web-based solution to retrieve and download information regarding patent application status. 

How Can You Participate?

You can work with and help improve eMod's Patent Center tool early by signing up to learn more about our upcoming eMod Text Pilot Program or eMod Patent Center Beta Program.

eMod Text Pilot Program Overview

Participants will be testing updated features that will be incorporated into the new patent electronic filing and management system in development, Patent Center. During the eMod Text Pilot Program, the current electronic patent application filing and viewing tools will integrate with new functionality being built in Patent Center to allow applicants to submit and receive text using EFS-Web and Private PAIR. 

Participants in the eMod Text Pilot Program will have first priority to participate in the Patent Center Beta Program, which is tentatively scheduled for Fall 2016.

eMod Text Pilot Program Tentative Timeline

  • Early May 2016: eMod Project Team will begin sending emails, with defined guidelines, to individuals and firms who have indicated an interested in the eMod Text Pilot Program. At that time, we will confirm participant interest, and provide additional information on how to proceed. 
  • Late May 2016: eMod Project Team will contact the first group of users who have been invited to join the eMod Text Pilot Program, to confirm participation.
  • June 2016: eMod Text Pilot Program Training/Workshops
  • Summer 2016: eMod Text Pilot Program begins

eMod Patent Center Beta Program Overview

Improvements resulting from the eMod Text Pilot Program will be incorporated into the eMod Patent Center Beta Program, which is tentatively scheduled to begin in Fall 2016. 

Participants will be testing the new patent electronic filing and management system in development, Patent Center. During the eMod Patent Center Beta Program, participants will be able to test current electronic patent application filing and viewing tools that have been transferred to Patent Center, along with new features, such as the ability for  applicants to submit and receive text using EFS-Web and Private PAIR.
