Help on the Patent Number Search Page
This page contains information on the use of the Patent
Number Search Page. If, after reading this page, you have an
unanswered question, please read the FAQ. If your question isn't answered
there, please mail the help desk.

The Patent Number Search page allows you to simply search for patents
by their number. While you can
search for patent numbers in other ways, this page
is designed to simplify one of the most common types of searching as
much as possible. To use the page:
- Type the number or numbers (separated by spaces) you're interested
in into the box. If you include more than one number, they should be
separated by a space. Whether you include commas or not, capitalize
the prefix or not, your search will work fine.
- Hit the Search button.
That's it! The database will be searched for all the numbers you
provide, and a list of the ones found in our database will be
returned, sorted with the most recent ones first. Since our database
only includes data for patents issued between 1976 and 04/06/1999
, any patent numbers which fall
outside this time period will not turn up in a search. A list of all
the patent numbers in our database is available on the Database Status page.
A few things to Note:
- Anything you enter into the patent number search box that is not a
patent number (other terms, operators like 'OR' or 'AND') will be
ignored. The search will be conducted only on any entries you make
that are recognized as patent numbers.
- The 'Refine Search' box that is on the search results page will
use the same query format as the Advanced Search page. See the Advanced Search Help page for
details on it's use.
