USPTO to Host Roundtable on the Patent and Trademark Depository Library Program

Washington - The United States Patent & Trademark Office (USPTO) will host a public roundtable discussion to gather input on the use of the Patent and Trademark Depository Libraries (PTDLs) and how to more effectively utilize their services in an electronic environment.

The roundtable will be held on Tuesday, February 15, 2011 from 1:30 p.m. - 3 p.m. EDT at the USPTO headquarters in Alexandria, Virginia, and will also be webcast.

Through the Patent and Trademark Depository Library Program the USPTO partners with academic, state and municipal libraries around the United States to develop core expertise in patent and trademark information to ensure that potential filers have local resources to draw on for assistance and support.

“PTDLs are the face of USPTO in local communities – promoting a culture of innovation and entrepreneurship,” said Under Secretary of Commerce for Intellectual Property and Director of the USPTO David Kappos. “With this roundtable, we hope to obtain input from organizations and individuals on current use of the PTDLs as well as how we can make them more beneficial in the future.”

Specifically, the USPTO is looking for suggestions on what services communities would like to see their PTDLs offer locally.  Recommendations will be solicited from stakeholders on the role they envision the libraries playing in the USPTO’s outreach efforts to provide more effective communication and transparent information to its customers. Further information on the Patent and Trademark Depository Libraries is available at: www.uspto.gov/products/library/ptdl.

This meeting will be available for viewing via a live webcast. To enter the webcast, interested parties should go to: https://uspto.connectsolutions.com/ptdlp021511.

In addition to the public meeting, stakeholders can submit comments via e-mail or in writing. Detailed information regarding the roundtable and where to submit comments can be found in the Federal Register notice: http://edocket.access.gpo.gov/2011/pdf/2011-2661.pdf.
