USPTO TO CO-HOST EVENT COMMEMORATING WORLD INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY DAY ON MONDAY, APRIL 26

Capitol Hill Event to Include House Judiciary Committee Chairman John Conyers, Jr.,

U.S. Trade Representative Ronald Kirk and U.S. Commerce Under Secretary David Kappos

 

Washington – The Department of Commerce’s United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) will co-host, in conjunction with the American Intellectual Property Law Association (AIPLA) Public Education Committee and the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), a commemoration of World Intellectual Property Day.  The theme of the event is Protecting Tomorrow: IP and Green Technology, and it will be held on Monday, April 26 from 2:30-5:30 p.m. in the Gold Room, Rayburn House Office Building.

House Judiciary Committee Chairman John Conyers (D-MI), U.S. Trade Representative Ronald Kirk, and Under Secretary of Commerce for Intellectual Property and Director of the USPTO David Kappos will all make remarks at the event.  A panel discussion featuring Under Secretary Kappos, WIPO Deputy Director General James Pooley and AIPLA Executive Director Q. Todd Dickinson will follow.  The panel discussion will be moderated by Under Secretary of Commerce for International Trade Francisco Sanchez and will include an open discussion period.  A reception will follow the formal program.

This World IP Day celebration will focus on green technology and feature a display by a number of private sector companies showcasing the latest advances in green technology.  The program will also highlight the USPTO’s pilot program which accelerates the examination of certain green technology patent applications.
