Secretary of Commerce Don Evans Names Three New Members to The Trademark Public Advisory Committee

Washington - Attorneys Leslie J. Lott, David M. Moyer and Jon Sandelin have been named to the Department of Commerce's United States Patent and Trademark Office’s (USPTO) Trademark Public Advisory Committee.

The Trademark Public Advisory Committee was created by the 1999 American Inventors Protection Act to advise the Under Secretary of Commerce and Director of the USPTO on the agency's operations, including its goals, performance, budget, and user fees. Each committee has nine voting members who are appointed by and serve at the pleasure of the Secretary of Commerce.

“I am pleased to announce that these prominent intellectual property attorneys will be joining the Trademark Public Advisory Committee at this very important time at the USPTO,” commented Secretary Evans.

Leslie J. Lott is employed in private practice with the firm of Lott & Friedland, specializing in patent, trademark, and copyright law. She is a member of the American Bar Association, International Trademark Association, American Intellectual Property Law Association, and the Federal Circuit Bar Association. Ms. Lott is the author of numerous publications on topics dealing with intellectual property, trademark and copyright issues.

David M. Moyer serves as an Associate General Counsel of Intellectual Property at the Procter & Gamble Company, located in Cincinnati, Ohio. He earned his B.A. in Economics at St. Lawrence University in Canton, New York in 1972, and his J.D. from Suffolk University in Boston, Massachusetts in 1980. Mr. Moyer’s professional associations include membership to the International Trademark Association where he served as the Chair of the Membership Committee, and he also is a past member of the United States Patent and Trademark Office Trademark Public Advisory Committee.

Jon Sandelin is a Senior Licensing Associate at Stanford University, where he is the Founder and Director of the Trademark Licensing Program. He earned his B.S. degree in Chemistry at the University of Washington in 1962, and his MBA Degree at Stanford University in 1968. Mr. Sandelin has written many publications, and continues to consult with businesses and offer presentations to organizations throughout the world regarding licensing issues. His professional memberships include: the Association of University Technology Managers, the Association of Collegiate Licensing Administrators, and as a past member of the University/Industry and Technology Acquisition Committees of the Licensing Executives Society.
