Patent and Trademark Public Advisory Committees to Hold Inaugural Meetings
The Patent Public Advisory Committee and the Trademark Public Advisory Committee will each hold its first meeting on August 23, 2000. The Committees were created by the 1999 American Inventors Protection Act to advise the Director of the USPTO on the agency's operations, including its goals, performance, budget, and user fees. Each committee has nine voting members who are appointed by and serve at the pleasure of the Secretary of Commerce. The statute also provides non-voting membership on the committees for the agency's three recognized unions. Appointments include independent inventors, lawyers, corporate executives, small entrepreneurs, and academicians with significant experience in management, finance, science, technology, labor relations, and intellectual property issues. Advisory Committee meetings are open to the public.
