Moy Camera Gears 2006 / Peerless Projector Lamphouse 2003 - Vince GonzalesPhotography Exhibit to Open at the USPTO’s Alexandria Campus

Tech Art:  The Photography of Vince Gonzales” an exhibit exploring filmmaking technology as art opens later this week in the Atrium of the Madison Building at 600 Dulany Street in Alexandria  The 37 photographs in the exhibit are on loan to the the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.

RCA Microphone 2005 - Vince GonzalesAccording to the Academy, “Tech Art captures a unique side of the artifacts of motion picture technology:  their beauty as objects.  While most may see merely function—a microphone, a splicer, projector—Gonzales uncovers dramatic shapes, distinctive textures and colors, hidden details of craftsmanship and design; in short, the remarkable aesthetics of these otherwise forgotten machines of the trade.”

The exhibit also provides a great compliment to the USPTO’s current exhibit, “Art of Invention – Invention of Art.”  The exhibit includes 70 works of art that have emerged from inventions, patents and trademarks.

The “Tech Art” exhibit ran this past summer at The Academy's Pickford Center for Motion Picture Study in Hollywood.  It will be on display at the USPTO thru November 18.

The exhibit is free and open to the public Monday thru Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
