Public Records Division/Public Information Services Division
Public User's Meeting
July 16, 2008 2:00 p.m.
Jefferson Building Conference Center

The Public User's Meeting was held at 2:00 p.m. in the 1st floor conference room 1D70/1D80 of the Jefferson Building at 500 Dulany Street on the USPTO campus in Alexandria, Virginia. Martha Sneed, PISD Manager, chaired the meeting. There were seven members of the public in attendance.

Announcements

A user survey is being conducted in the Public Search Facility. All public users were invited and encouraged to fill out surveys and submit them to boxes located at the service desks. Responses are being accepted between July 14 and August 8.

A request was made to the agency facilities managers to have air quality testing conducted in the PSF because a public user asked that the air quality and airflow be improved. So far it is still too warm and no real change has been observed. PSF Manager will continue to follow up with facilities maintenance and report back in August.

Public Search Facility Update

UPWS

A software change that was supposed to improve EAST searching has not worked and is in fact causing automatic shutdowns in EAST with accompanied loss of saved workspace. Developers will continue to test for a fix so that the improvement can be rolled out to all UPWS.

User Comments: Can damaged pages in the Manual of Classification at service desks be replaced?

Answer: Yes, pages can be replaced; however the 2nd floor reference desk copy will continue to be maintained as the historical reference copy for the latest printing (December 2002).

User Comments: A user has been having problems using his wireless connection in the PSF. Calls to the help desk have yielded no solutions. Is there any recourse?

Answer: Martha Sneed will try to identify a point of contact in the network security group that will try to help solve the problem.

Public Records Division Update

The front entrances to the South Tower building are finally open access.

Question: When will the move to Shirlington occur?

Answer: The move will occur in the late January-February 2009 time frame. As we get closer to the time, the dates will be more precise.

The meeting was adjourned at 2:20 p.m.

Next meeting is scheduled for August 20, 2008 at 2:00pm in the Jefferson conference room 1D70/1D80.
