CLASS 298,	LAND VEHICLES: DUMPING

SECTION I - CLASS DEFINITION

Vehicles other than track or rail vehicles and commonly known as dumping-wagons, dump-carts, dumping-sleighs, dumping-barrows, chute-wagons, etc., adapted for carrying a freight-load and so constructed and arranged that by manipulation of the whole or a part of the vehicle the load or some considerable part thereof will move by gravity to unload the vehicle.

1	MISCELLANEOUS
	Patents falling within this class and not properly classifiable in other subclasses thereof.

2	HAND TRUCKS AND BARROWS
	Specially adapted to be propelled by hand.

3	Single wheel
	Mounted on one wheel.

4	SLEDS
	Supported on runners.

5	TWO-WHEEL
	Dumping-vehicles of all types mounted on two wheels.

6	With cover or end gate control
	Those of the type indicated where means is provided to operate an end-gate or cover through the dumping operation of the vehicle or means for doing so manually where such means is located at a distance from the end-gate or cover.

7	WITH LOAD-DELIVERING CHUTE
	Dumping-vehicles of any type having some modification of the vehicle to adapt a delivery chute thereto or some combined structure of the vehicle and delivery-chute. SEE OR SEARCH CLASS: 193,  Conveyors, Chutes, Skids, Guides, and Ways,   subclasses 4+ for chutes, per se,

8	PLURAL LOAD UNITS
	Dumping-vehicles of any type where the load is divided into separate units and can be separately dumped, excepting that a tiltable load-receptacle having removable partitions is not included, but is found in other subclasses of this class under proper type.

9	ROTATING ABOUT VERTICAL AXIS AND TILTING
	This subclass is indented under the class definition.  Dumping vehicles in which the load-receptacle is rotatable about a vertical axis prior to, during or after tilting thereof.

10	ROTATING TO OVERTURN ABOUT FIXED AXIS
	Those in which the load-receptacle rotates about a fixed pivot to turn the load out of the open top of the receptacle.

11	ELEVATING AND TILTING
	Where the load-receptacle is tilted to permit the load to slide off the bottom of the receptacle, there being also an elevation of the load-receptacle as a whole. SEE OR SEARCH CLASS: 414,  Material or Article Handling,   subclasses 697+ , for material moving devices with a vertical swinging load support of the tilting shovel or fork type.

12	SLIDING AND TILTING
	This subclass is indented under the class definition.  Dumping vehicles in which the load-receptacle as a whole is movable in a horizontal or downwardly inclined direction prior to, during or after tilting thereof.

13	Side delivery only
	Those of the type indicated where the load is dumped at the side of the vehicle.

14	Operating mechanism
	Provided with additional means for effecting any of the movements of the load-receptacle, either to dump the load or return the receptacle to its load-carrying position, or both.

15	Vehicle-motion controlled
	Where the operation is effected by a movement of the vehicle as a whole or through the movement of some substantial part thereof.

16	Vehicle-motor controlled
	Operated by the power plant that propels the vehicle.

17	TILTING
	Where the load-receptacle is capable of assuming an inclined or tilted position to permit the load to slide off the inclined bottom of the receptacle. SEE OR SEARCH CLASS: 222,  Dispensing,   subclass 166 .

17.5	Tilting about plural or shifting fulcrums
	This subclass is indented under subclass 17.  Devices in which the load-receptacle is (1) selectively tiltable about at least one of a plurality of pivot axes or (2) tiltable about an axis which progressively changes concurrently with the tilting (e.g., rocking support).

17.6	Selectively tiltable in different directions
	This subclass is indented under subclass 17.5.  Devices in which the load-receptacle is optionally tiltable in a selected one of a plurality of different directions (e.g., towards either side).

17.7	Side or end delivery
	This subclass is indented under subclass 17.6.  Devices in which the load-receptacle is optionally tiltable to either an end or a side.

17.8	Progressive fulcrum points
	This subclass is indented under subclass 17.6.  Devices wherein the pivot axis about which the load-receptacle is tilted, during at least one tilting cycle, sequentially moves from one to another of a plurality of fulcrum points, (e.g., rocking support).

18	Side delivery only
	Where the load is dumped at the side of the vehicle.

19	Operating mechanism
	Provided with additional means for effecting the tilting of the load-receptacle or returning it to its load-carrying position, or both.

20	Vehicle-motion controlled
	Where the operation is effected by a movement of the vehicle as a whole or through the movement of some substantial part thereof.

21	Vehicle-motor controlled
	Operated by the power plant that propels the vehicle.

22	Fluid-pressure operators
	Provided with fluid-pressure operators.

23	With cover or endgate control
	Those of the type indicated where means is provided to operate an end-gate or cover through the dumping operation of the vehicle or means for doing so manually where such means is located at a distance from the end-gate or cover.

24	HOPPER TYPE
	Consisting of a box-container having a movable part or parts adapted, when moved, to permit the load to fall by gravity. SEE OR SEARCH CLASS: 222,  Dispensing,   particularly subclass 476 , et seq.

25	Pivoted sections
	Consisting of sections pivoted together. SEE OR SEARCH THIS CLASS, SUBCLASS: 29+,

26	Tilting bottom
	Where the bottom as a whole is pivoted to tilt to permit the load to slide by gravity. SEE OR SEARCH THIS CLASS, SUBCLASS: 29+, where the bottom is divided and each section is pivoted.

27	Bottom opening
	Where the bottom of the load-receptacle can be opened to permit the load to drop by gravity to a position under the vehicle.

28	Removable bottom boards
	The load-receptacle is provided with the removable part or parts indicated.

29	Hinged doors
	Where the bottom of the load-carrier consists of a door or doors hinged to open and permit the load to drop. SEE OR SEARCH THIS CLASS, SUBCLASS: 25,

30	Transversely hinged only
	Where the hinge extends transversely of the vehicle only.

31	Longitudinally hinged only
	Where the hinge extends longitudinally of the vehicle only.

32	Parallel swinging
	Having a plurality of doors so hinged that they swing parallel to each other.

33	Oppositely swinging
	So hinged that the doors swing in opposite directions.

34	Inwardly only
	Swinging in opposite directions and toward a median of the vehicle in dropping the load.

35	Outwardly only
	Swinging in opposite directions and toward the outside of the vehicle to drop the load.

36	Vertically movable
	Also movable in a vertical direction.

37	Closing equalizers
	Those of the type indicated having a single door-closing operator so constructed that all the doors are tightly closed. Such devices also permit the closing of one door in advance of another.

38	CATCHES
	Holding devices adapted to releasably hold a movable part of a dump-wagon in its normal or load-carrying position. SEE OR SEARCH CLASS: 292,  Closure Fasteners,   for closure-fasteners of general utility.
