Private PAIR (Resolved), e-Office Action (Resolved), ID Manual & TESS Search (Update) Problem and TEASi Payment Error Message

PROBLEM RESOLVED:  Applicants can now view patent applications in Private PAIR and file follow-on submissions via EFS-Web for applications filed on April 24-25.

USPTO has RESOLVED both problems reported earlier today about the inability to view new patent applications in Private PAIR and file follow-on submissions for new applications filed April 24-25.

e-Office Action Notification Failure for April 24-25 - RESOLVED

The delayed automatic email notifications for e-Office Action participants on April 24 and 25 has been resolved. All email notifications for both days will be resent today. We apologize for the inconvenience and thank you for your patience.

e-Office Action Notification Failure

USPTO is currently experiencing a problem with the e-Office Action process sending emails to external email addresses. Automatic email notifications have been delayed for e-Office Action participants on April 24 and 25. Emails are currently being sent manually.

We are working to resolve this problem and anticipate the e-Office Action program will be working again shortly. Please go to the Outgoing Correspondence tab in Private PAIR to check if you have new correspondence from the USPTO. We will keep you informed with follow-up announcements. We apologize for the inconvenience.

To access your new correspondence:

  1. Log into Private PAIR
  2. Under the Search for Customer Number section, select the View Outgoing Correspondence radio button, select “7 days” from the “for the past” drop-down list
  3. Leave the selection for Select Customer Number drop-down list at the default option, “All”
  4. A list of new Office correspondence will be available for the last 7 days, including today’s

ID Manual Search Feature Restored

TheSearch feature of the ID Manual has been restored.  However, the field selection "All fields" does not search the "Notes" field.  We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause. The problem is being addressed by staff at the USPTO.

Please note that there will not be any additional entries added to the ID Manual until May 2.


TESS Search Problem

The Trademark Electronic Search System (TESS) is now operational with current data and images. Furthermore, the Image List feature which allows users to view multiple images at one time is now functioning properly. 

All Trademark searches using TESS, conducted between 5 a.m. Saturday, April 20 and 5 a.m. Sunday, April 21, must be redone. Additionally, all Trademark searches using TESS, conducted between 3 a.m. Tuesday, April 23 and 5 a.m. Wednesday, April 24, must be redone.

TEASi - Subsequent Designation to International Registration Form - Payment Error Message

We are currently experiencing technical difficulties with our payment system for customers using the Subsequent Designation form. Users of this form may receive an “Internal Failure” error message after submitting payment information. Although the financial portion of the transaction completed, a technical glitch prevented the subsequent designation form from updating with the payment information. The problem is being addressed by staff at the USPTO. We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may cause. If you received this error message, please e-mail Madrid Processing Unit at mpu@uspto.gov immediately and include the following information:

  • your name
  • telephone number
  • date of submission
  • international registration number.
